Jesus said, “Father, forgive them, for they don’t know what they are doing.”And the soldiers gambled for his clothes by throwing dice. Luke 23:34  Yes, as Jesus Christ hung on the cross, those who put him there gambled for his clothes.  It seems so preposterous.  Who would witness Christ’s love in such a huge way, and be distracted by gambling. It isn’t preposterous. It happens all the time.  Jesus Christ is right in front of us and we “gamble” right in front of him.  As Jesus draws near to us in the beauty of a rainbow, we are too distracted complaining about the rain.  As Jesus draws near to us by giving us his Church, we get distracted & don’t go.  As Jesus draws near to us by his 24-hour a day, undivided accessibility, we get distracted & only utter his name when we get mad.  Maybe we aren’t witnessing Jesus on the cross, but we are still witnessing Jesus.  He is on his throne in heaven AND actively involved in your Earth.  But are we distracted?  I don’t know where you are. But I know where I have been. I was distracted for a decade of my life, gambling (among other insults) right in front of Jesus. Now, when I think of being in front of Him, I only see myself prostrate to the ground, weeping over His amazing grace. I know you know of this Jesus, but I hope you aren’t so distracted that you are missing Him. He loves you.
