When I was a kid, my Dad made me read the bible every night. So being the rebel-brat that I was, when I moved out, I kicked the good book to the curb.ย  That was my first mistake. My second mistake was actually justifying “not opening it” because it was too hard to read and I have some comprehension issues. So years went by…

John 8:32, “you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.

I was at a Christian college. Failing my classes. Getting disciplined with service hours for breaking the rules. Drinking underage. Stealing underage. Gettin’ around. For all intents and purposes, I was chained to a lifestyle that I wanted to be free from.ย  So I went to the mall, because I knew one of my business prof’s also ran a Christian bookstore there. I asked to buy a bible. A “dummy” bible that I could comprehend. They sold me the “New Living Translation.” I started to read it. And I dropped to my knees in repentance and joined the Peace Corps. LOL! Yay, right! Actually, I still continued in myย  lifestyle. But now, I was opening up pages to truths that would slowly, steadily, and surely, set me free…

Today, I read my bible everyday. Every morning, to be exact. These days, I use a smartphone app called “YouVersion.” It’s free. It’s convenient. And it has the “dummy” one (New Living Translation). I also use this app to subscribe to different devotions, depending on the season of life I’m in. Right now, I am subscribed to a Marriage Devo by Jimmy Evans & the Active Word by Bob Coy.

It’s a new year. But if you are still waking up to the same ole’ lifestyle and you want to change, you just gotta try God’s book. Let me know if you do. We’ll celebrate and party! (the good way ๐Ÿ™‚ )
