standingstill“When the Roman officer who stood facing him saw how he had died, he exclaimed, ‘Truly, thiswas the Sonof God.'”  (Mark 15:39)  In the last 12 hours of Jesus’ life, the Roman soldiers were busy.  The bible says they mocked, whipped, beat, made crowns of thorns, gambled, pierced and crucified.  In addition to maintaining some degree of order in a chaotic Jerusalem, these Roman soldiers fulfilled these duties.  But after all was said and done with, one soldier did something perhaps “out of duty.” According to Mark 15:39, he stood, he saw, he praised.  In short, this begs one question: am I too busy with my duties to stand still and see Him?  We say it all the time: live in the fast lane, time goes by so fast, need more time, where’d the time go?  We complain we can’t see Jesus, but is it because we are too busy to look?  One time, one soldier took time to stand still–long enough to change the rest of his life. That’s powerful.  But this blog post would not have been possible had this man not stood still. We know we are busy. But let’s try being still. 🙂
