hoffman-root copy_20140202_150413I was very sad to hear about Philip Seymour Hoffman‘s death. I know he went before he should have. Anyone with addiction, does. I have not battled the addiction of drugs, but I’ve battled it in other things. Some of us understand that insatiable desire that starts off like a worm of “want” inside and grows into some all-consuming beast we can’t conquer, eventually, succumbing to. Is there ANYTHING that can conquer the beast of addiction that starts off like a worm of temptation? Yes. Yes there is. But it’s not a thing. It’s a who. With Christ in my heart, I have a way out of my addiction.  There are a few timeless, all-truth, God-breathed verses that come to mind, validating this assertion. One is “I can do ALL things THROUGH Christ WHO strengthens me,” also, “because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world,” and lastly, “And God is faithful. He will not allow the temptation to be more than you can stand.” I know we get tempted. Porn, drugs, alcohol, infidelity, food, stealing, hording, spending, etc. These are real temptations that can become real addictions that are really hard to fight. But if Jesus is in your heart, VICTORY is within your grasp. Don’t give up. You got this.
