Subconscious-MindI was 8 years old when battles started in my mind. I’ve continued to fight for 32 years. Depression, anxiety, bipolarity, OCD, BPD, and the like, are legit. They are sicknesses in the mind–not to be distinguished from sicknesses in the body. But let me tell you one thing I’ve learned: with God, ALL things are possible (Matthew 19:26). And apart from God, I can do nothing (John 15:5). These two verses have solidified my life, well-lived, with mental affliction. God is sovereign, perfect in all His ways. He created me and He knew what He was doing. And He knew I would have what I have. Many of us are born with “thorns in our sides,” but God isn’t mean because He allowed it. He sees in you what you might not see–that His strength will be made perfect in your weakness. Have mental affliction? Yes, it’s tough. Have God? Yes, it’s still tough….but not impossible. I’m thankful for movements like NAMI, POTSC, TWLOHA, and HOPE4MH that are raising awareness. And if you don’t struggle with your mind, give God thanks and let God use your mind to help others who are struggling with theirs.
