MEDION DIGITAL CAMERAI’ve heard it said, “Pray is the least you can do.” But now that I’m half-way through my hopeful century on this planet, I’d say it’s often (if not, always) the most we can do. Let’s say I have a family member who is an addict. A classic addict who has stolen, manipulated, scared and hurt his family for years. Experts would say we don’t want to give them money, lest it feed their addiction. Wisdom would say not let them in your home, lest their addictive nature unleash in front of your kids. Love would say not give them what they need every time, lest we contribute to their enabling. I’m inclined to conclude that since all those options aren’t options, that prayer IS my option. Thereby not being the least I can do, but the most. When you and I go to God and pray for someone, we gotta realize the two things that happen. One, we may be the ONLY one who is praying for them. It is not just a responsibility but a privilege. Oh, that we would pray for others who ask us to like we are the only ones in the world who will. Secondly, praying ushers the Savior of the World to a situation we can not save. It brings the sovereign into the broken. The Most High into the most low. So next time someone utters, “Just pray. It’s the least we can do,” pray….but also join me in telling them actually, it’s the most.
